Why Is There a Union Label?

You may have noticed that all of the pages on this site contain a Union Label or “Bug”.

I would like to take a moment to explain why it is there.

I grew up in a union household. My dad was a plumber, pipefitter, and welder, and has been a member of the United Association since his apprenticeship. He retired in June 2011.

The UA treated us well over the years. Because of the union, my dad was able to earn a high enough wage that it was possible for my parents to send me to college.

I don’t mean to say that my parents didn’t sacrifice to send me to school. I wouldn’t have the great job in air traffic control that I have today if it wasn’t for them.

Because I had enjoyed the benefits of union membership when I was young, I joined the National Air Traffic Controllers Association on my first day at my air traffic control tower.

Since that day, I have been actively involved in our NATCA Local. I started out as the Secretary and served three terms in office. Two years later, I was elected Facility Representative or “FacRep” of our local. I am currently serving my third two year term.

Because of my extensive union background, I decided to place a Union Label on the LCC site as a “Thank you” to the unions that have helped me throughout my life and career.

It all comes down to this:

When I think “Union”, I think hard workers, good friends, and great families.

I would like to think that this site is a place for hard working folks to share their thoughts with the motorcycling and welding community.
