When we did our last trip to Michigan, we skipped the Tunnel of Trees. This trip, I made it a priority to ride it.

After crossing the Mackinac Bridge and turning off of I75 and M31, I happened across a field of sunflowers. I couldn’t help but think that someone would have a hard time not being happy if they lived next to it.

I fueled up at Cross Village and turned down M119, the Tunnel of Trees. The road is only a lane and a half wide with no shoulder. There was some sand in the corners, so I had to take extra care in the twisties.

It was one of the best stretches of road that I have ever ridden.

There were pull-offs that made it possible to view Lake Michigan. It was a bit hazy, but I could see Traverse City in the distance.
