2011 Motorcycle Trip: NS and PEI

Trip to PEI and NS

I think I’ve finally set the route for my big road trip this year.

I started with 9 days and around 3000 miles riding from NW Ohio to Prince Edward Island (PEI) in Canada by way of Maine’s Atlantic coastline. My original route was the farthest that I would have ever ridden my bike on one trip.

Notice that I said “original route”? The route has really taken on a life of its own since I first started contemplating it.

When my wife was in Florida, she was talking about my trip to a biker at the Iron Horse Saloon. He said that if I was going all the way to PEI that I should ride the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia.

After doing some research, the Cabot Trail was added to the trip. To accommodate the change, two more days were added to the ride.

While researching the ferry from PEI to Caribou, NS, I contacted Doug from Authentic Seacoast on Twitter. He suggested riding Route 16 near Guysborough and suggested staying at the Osprey Shores Resort.

Since I found the ferry from PEI to NS and it saved me from backtracking, I only had to add another day to visit Guysborough and ride Route 16 like Doug suggested.

After the additions and adjustments, the trip is now set at 12 days and nearly 4000 miles; and I can’t wait!!

Here are the maps of the route:

Day 1: Holland, OH, to Elmira, NY
Day 2: Elmira to Portland, ME
Day 3: Portland to Bar Harbor, ME
Day 4: Bar Harbor to Charlottetown, PEI
Day 5: Cruising PEI (Overnight in Charlottetown)
Day 6: Charlottetown to Cheticamp, NS
Day 7: Cheticamp to Guysborough, NS, via the Cabot Trail
Day 8: Guysborough to Moncton, NB
Day 9: Moncton to Bangor, ME
Day 10: Bangor to Waterville Valley, NH
Day 11: Waterville Valley to Penn Yan, NY
Day 12: Penn Yan to Holland

PEI and Nova Scotia Trip

In the initial planning stages, I used several different mapping websites. I used the Harley trip planner for the final links on this post, but all of these services came in handy.

Google Maps, Motorcycle Travel America (Early Route Map), motorcycleroads.us, motorcycleroads.com, and the Best Western Trip Planner.

All hotel stops except for the ones in Nova Scotia will be Best Westerns.
